My “New Year’s Resolutions”

Hi everyone! Hope the new year is treating all of you well so far :D

Of course as you peruse your favourite blogs, something that’s been coming up a lot lately is everyone’s New Year’s Resolutions. I love reading through these not only because it’s super-interesting to hear what kind of personal goals others set up for themselves, but also because it gives me ideas on what I can work on in addition to the resolutions I already had in mind.

One thing I’m not so into however, is the fact that it’s a resolution for the new YEAR, and everyone seems to make them at the same time. Although this may work for many people, I personally set up resolutions continuously throughout the year, regardless of the month or day of the week. Feeing constantly dehydrated? I’ll start drinking more water starting tomorrow. Ate too much? Okay, next meal I’ll listen to my body more. Spent 2 hours watching YouTube videos? Alright, only 3 videos at a time…starting next week. Things like that ;)

So, like everybody else, I definitely made some resolutions for myself for 2014, but one of these actually involves making MONTHLY resolutions, and checking up at the beginning of each month on whether I’ve been keeping up with those goals. It’s all too easy to make goals for the whole year, only to fall off the bandwagon 2 months in (yeah, gym membership, I’m looking at you!). If you’re reading this and totally know where I’m coming from, I encourage you to do the same!

So without further ado, my resolutions starting this month, in a nutshell:

1. Drink more water!!

    Easier said than done when running around at work bahh. My skin starts to get dry when I don’t drink enough, so I gotta get on this!

2. Spend less time on the computer.

    Okay, I’m sure you guys will understand this oh-so-familiar routine: you watch one video, glance at the suggestion list on the side, decide to watch another, and the cycle continues…until finally you look at the clock, and somehow 2+ hours have passed. Wha’?!?! I don’t watch TV at all (except for Suits! Love that show :P), but I swear YouTube makeup videos are my kryptonite!

3. Blog at least once a week. (Working on this!!)

4. Get my creative juices flowing once a week: drawing and/or photography.

    For those of you who don’t personally know me, I used to draw a LOT in highschool and before, but university + working had left me with barely any time to even sketch :( Ditto with photography. I got a beautiful DSLR 3 years ago, but taking good photos requires a lot of learning, so I really want to start committing more. No excuses!

5. Spend more time with my family.

   It’s so easy for me to make plans with friends and coworkers because I’m a very social person, but I need to remind myself that family is #1, above all. Something as small as helping my little sister with her project (which I’ll be doing after I finish this post!) can make a big difference. 

Anddd that’s a wrap! I had more resolutions on top of this, but I don’t want to write a novel for y’all :P I’m picking up my DSLR this week from the service shop, so I hope to take more photos for you soon! (And hence start crossing off Resolution #4 off of that list ;))

  1. I’ll probably watch the Golden Globes. The trick is to DVR it and then you can fast forward through the boring parts. They have a tendency to drag it out.
